What is an automotive customer data platform (CDP)?
An automotive CDP ingests dealership data from multiple sources, resolves identities, creates usable profiles or audiences, activates them in permitted destinations and may return outcomes for measurement. Products differ significantly in data hygiene, identity, activation and write-back.
Collection is only the start
List every source, object, refresh interval, historical window and failure condition. A dashboard that displays multiple sources does not by itself establish identity or activation capability.
Identity decisions need inspection
Test duplicates, shared households, changed contact information, business records, multiple vehicles and conflicting consent. Document deterministic and probabilistic rules.
Prove activation and outcome return
Create an audience from real criteria, deliver it to an approved destination, apply suppression, and reconcile delivery and outcome data back to the source profile.
What to verify
Source and object inventory
Identity-resolution test set
Consent and suppression propagation
Activation destinations
Outcome return and export

Evaluate a dealership CDP by proving source coverage, data hygiene, identity resolution, consent handling, audience creation, activation destinations, outcome return and portability. A unified dashboard alone is not a complete CDP outcome.

What is the difference between a DMS and a CRM?
A DMS is normally the operating and financial system of record for deals, accounting, parts and service. A CRM is normally the sales and customer-workflow system for leads, communications, appointments and follow-up. A suite may include both, but the data and workflow boundaries still need to be documented.
Integration verificationHow do you verify a dealership software integration?
Verify both named products and versions, applicable dealerships, data objects, fields, direction, frequency, authentication, provider, fees, monitoring and support ownership. A partner logo or marketplace listing is only a discovery signal.
Write-back definitionWhat does bidirectional integration or write-back mean?
Bidirectional generally means data moves in both directions, while write-back means one system can update another system’s record. Neither phrase is complete until the exact objects, fields, triggers, conflict rules and timing are stated.
Open DMS meaningWhat is an open DMS?
“Open DMS” has no single controlling definition. It may refer to APIs, certified integrations, customer-authorized data access, export capabilities or a commercial marketplace. Dealers should replace the label with specific access and portability requirements.
