CP Handheld Technologies: product details

CP Handheld describes web-based software that automates the inventory and accounting reconciliations a dealership needs for internal controls. Its home page lists three: inventory reconciliation, which compares the physical scan, DMS general ledger schedules, manufacturer reports and wholesale lender statements and flags exceptions; floor plan reconciliation, which matches lender schedules with the ledger and lists VIN and balance discrepancies; and RDR reconciliation, which compares the manufacturer report with the ledger to track the timing of sales and protect bonus and incentive credits.

VINpoint Mobile, for iOS and Android, lets staff scan vehicles, print labels, edit inventory details and add tags anywhere on the property, and a Precision Inventory tool records GPS coordinates so a vehicle can be located on a map. Its solutions page says owners keep a balanced ledger and lower audit and fraud risk, controllers get clean documented books, and employees find vehicles by GPS and tags.

It also says no new infrastructure or extra IT staff is needed.

Those are the vendor's descriptions. A controller should ask which DMS exports it reads, how often the reconciliations run, who resolves an exception and how the result is documented for the manufacturer's audit and the floor plan lender's audit.

Ask also whether the GPS function requires hardware on each vehicle or relies on the phone's location when a car is scanned.

The solutions page also lists benefits by role and argues that owners reduce the chance of fraud and audits, controllers get clean documented books and employees search vehicles by tag. It describes the product as pay for itself over time and as needing no new infrastructure.

A controller should ask for the audit report format, how often the physical scan must be repeated, how it treats vehicles on consignment or at another location, and what the software costs per rooftop. Read the contract twice.
