Autotrader
Autotrader describes its mission as being an online solution for buying and selling new, certified and used cars. Its site is a consumer marketplace with vehicle listings, shopping tools and a dealer directory, and it invites dealers to become participating dealers and to advertise.
Autotrader: Vehicle listings
Shoppers can browse by vehicle style, shop by budget with a payment tool, buy online with delivery, and request an instant cash offer; the site also offers an AI-based chat mode for finding cars.
| Product or service | Function |

Autotrader: product details
Autotrader's own pages say it was established in 1997 and its app has hundreds of thousands of ratings. Its about page describes more than 3 million listings from 40,000 dealers and 250,000 private owners and says it reaches more than 14 million buyers a month; the page is undated, so treat those figures as older claims and ask for current audience numbers.
The consumer site also promotes Buy Online at participating dealers, an Instant Cash Offer for trade-ins and AutoCheck vehicle history reports.
For a dealer the product is a listing and advertising channel, so the useful questions are how leads are priced and credited, which inventory feed the listings use, and how an Instant Cash Offer or an online purchase is routed to the store that holds the car.
