ChromeData is the vehicle data business inside J.D. Power.
Its products include VIN descriptions that identify a vehicle's exact configuration, configuration and comparison interfaces for building shopping tools, and Certified Inventory, which standardizes listings and connects with hundreds of dealer inventory feed providers. Ford has an agreement with ChromeData to expand vehicle build data coverage.

A November 2022 report describes how ChromeData gets its build data. Ford agreed to supply manufacturing data on its Ford and Lincoln vehicles for ChromeData's VIN descriptions, which insurers, dealers, lenders, marketers and valuation services use.
The article says the agreement gives ChromeData build data for about 80 percent of the brands sold in the United States. It places the business in Troy, Michigan, and quotes the president of J.D.
Power's Autodata Solutions division saying ChromeData has set the data standard for nearly three decades. Ford's stated interest was more accurate insurance quotes.
