Start with what the manufacturer requires, because most brand programs today ask for Level 2 charging only, and a Level 2 port installed commercially is commonly quoted at roughly $3,000 to $15,000.
How to choose car dealer EV charging
DC fast charging is a different project: quotes run from about $80,000 to $250,000 or more per port once electrical work and construction are counted, and a typical dealership's electrical service was sized for lighting, lifts and shop tools, not for the three-phase power a fast charger draws. Ask the utility for a capacity study before any vendor quote is accepted.

What to check before you buy
The recurring side matters as much as the hardware. Networked chargers usually carry a software or network fee.
Every charger needs a maintenance plan. A dead charger in front of the showroom is a customer experience problem.
Check how uptime is measured and reported, and who answers a fault call. Ask what happens to the hardware if the network company stops operating, and whether the units can move to another software network.
Incentives change quickly. The federal credit for charging property was scheduled to end for installations placed in service after June 30, 2026.
State and utility programs vary. Confirm what applies to your site with a tax adviser and the utility before relying on any figure.
