How to choose car dealer facilities and compliance
Most repair operations qualify as small quantity generators, which limits how long and how much hazardous waste they can store on site; used oil must go with a licensed handler and the records (date, quantity and hauler) should be kept for at least three years. Service bay floor drains may not discharge to a storm drain without a permit and normally connect to an oil-water separator. A store near navigable water with large aggregate oil storage also needs a written spill prevention plan, and OSHA and state agencies add their own layers.

What to check before you buy
A compliance tool should be judged on the records an inspector asks for. Think of container labeling and inspection logs, pickup manifests, training records by employee and safety data sheet access.
It should also remind the right person before a deadline. Find out how the vendor keeps current with your state's rules, and whether it covers every rooftop and department.
Check what you can export if an agency visits. A dashboard that shows green while pickup records are missing is worse than none.
Training and site differences need tracking too. Workers who handle hazardous chemicals must receive hazard communication training, and the store should keep the records.
The tool should remind a manager before each person's renewal. Generator status is worked out site by site from monthly waste quantities, so two rooftops in the same group can face different rules.
Ask whether the product tracks each location separately, and whether a new rooftop can be added without a new contract.
