The system automatically records key transactions, which the company says improves efficiency and security in both sales and service departments. Reynolds and Reynolds also sells it, on its vehicle management pages.

Users can reserve keys in advance and log in by QR code or fingerprint scan, according to KeyTrak. An optional motion-activated security camera adds surveillance to the drawer.

The software is described as customizable and streamlined, and detailed reports show all system activity, including each user's transactions.

A mobile application extends the system. KeyTrak says users can transfer keys to another user without returning and checking them out at the drawer, look up vehicle information, reserve keys by scanning a QR code on a windshield and map a vehicle's location on the lot.

KeyTrak Edge Remote lets a manager handle keys and users from any computer on the same network.

The company describes integration options with DMS providers, so key transactions can be tied to deals and repair orders. It publishes separate solution pages for small and medium dealerships, large dealerships and dealership groups.

A KeyTrak announcement introduced the Edge system to fast-track key management, and another described the product at NADA 2021.

KeyTrak also sells to other industries, and its automotive page focuses on dealerships.

A general manager or fixed operations director would ask how the drawer is installed and sized for the inventory, how it handles keys for service loaners and customer vehicles, how reports are used to find a missing key, how the DMS integration works, who supports the hardware and how power and network outages are handled. Test it on real data.
