Tekmetric describes Tekmetric Payments as the payment processing built into its shop management platform, sold earlier under the name Tekmerchant. The company says it processes credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and text-to-pay, with each transaction handled inside the same system the shop uses to run repair orders.

Business Wire carried a May 2023 release announcing an upgraded version of the Tekmerchant integrated payments platform. Vehicle Service Pros reported the enhancements.

Stripe, the payment technology company, also published a customer story about how Tekmetric integrated Stripe for its payments product.

Text-to-pay is described as letting customers pay anytime and from anywhere, for instance when they collect a vehicle after hours or when a parent pays for a repair on behalf of a student. Tekmetric's blog explains the workflow, in which the shop sends a payment link by text message and the customer completes payment on their phone.

The company also describes a buy now, pay later option in the same platform, which lets a customer pay over time through financing partners it names as Affirm, Klarna and Sunbit. A Tekmetric blog post on the subject explains how a shop presents the option with an estimate.

Those partners' terms are their own, and eligibility is decided by them.

On the accounting side, Tekmetric says the platform automatically integrates partial and complete payments into its point of sale, which feeds its payments reports for tracking. It describes this as simplifying checkout, speeding cash flow and keeping reconciliation automatic, since the payment is recorded against the repair order that created it.

Tekmetric also publishes a feature page on point of sale and a mobile app upgrade post, which show payments being taken from the phone or tablet in the shop.

This is a fixed-operations payments record. A service department using Tekmetric would ask how processing fees are disclosed, how deposits and partial payments are handled on a repair order, how refunds and chargebacks are reported, how payouts reach the bank account, and how the terms interact with any surcharge or cash discount rules in the shop's state.
